Mac has all the right functionality in my books.  I’m a media guy so it would just make complete sense to go that route.  From audio to video editing Macs seem to be the way to go.

Then on the other hand, for the price of a Macbook Pro, I could build a very nicely spec’d PC for the study, a netbook for all conveniences, and maybe… a tablet of sort.

Well help a guy out in this day and age we’re living in… would love to hear your comments…

Of late, thats my new focus.  I am looking to travel overseas some time soon and so my research has begun.  Wesites like SAflights.co.za has been a lifesaver comparing all the necessary legs of the trip, usually stopping in London before heading out to Europe or America.

FNB and MWeb have gone ahead and pioneered the way this week to open wide the online world for South Africans to surf and send money across the Internet safe and secure.

FNB customers can now send money and sell products online, using their local South African FNB bank account and Paypal.  MWeb on the other hand started offering an overseas standard UNCAPPED ADSL service that started a price war amongst Internet Service Providers nationwide.  Naturally, we’re still waiting for Telkom to play catch up.

So What Is Paypal? (Just incase you don’t know)
Paypal is the world’s largest payment gateway engine for eCommerce globally.  It has a massive active customer base of 81 million around the world.  Consumers can top up and purchase online and merchants can receive money via their Paypal account and then withdraw funds into their bank account associated with the Paypal account.  Check out FNB for more information!

Did you know you can Raise and Request money through Paypal on Facebook?  You just simply need to add the application on your Facebook profile.

Another great thing is that visitors coming out for the 2010 FIFA World Cup will have an opportunity to use the Paypal service with local businesses to pay for things here in South Africa.

Now… it’s about jolly time… UNCAPPED ADSL is here to stay!  MWeb began a pricing war to FREE THE WEB starting at R219 a month.  Well all I can say is Hallelujah!

For most of you that were (or are) running older versions of WordPress installations on your hosting platforms you are probably not aware that you are in fact open to being hacked!  Towards the end of last month one of my hosting accounts with HostGator was hacked and several of my blog sites were down whilst I was away in Cape Town.  Talk about ruining a perfectly good holiday.

I immediately contacted the HostGator support team and as per usual they were all over it.  They got on the case straight away and started helping me to restore a backup of all my websites that had been hacked!   I really want to recommend the guys at HostGator for their timeous response and fantastic efforts to get me up and running across the board by the time I got back to my holiday apartment that evening.

The second thing I thought to check up on was my Adsense account.  Phew!  Slight panic but all was ok.  That would have crushed my soul on that vacation.  There I was spending my money with the thought that suddenly it was spent before I could possibly spend it myself.

Now as I mentioned earlier this happened because I was running on an older version of WordPress.  After getting back home to Durban, I immediately started looking for causes and resolutions to the problem which I had while away and came across a number of articles online that highlighted the vulnerability to be in older versions of WordPress that are installed by users all over the world.  (Isn’t it nice to know that you’re not the only one that gets hit hard).  I fired up my HostGator CPanel and upgraded each and every installation of WordPress for each of my blog websites, making sure I wasn’t open to being hacked the same way again.

So make sure you all go and check that you update all your installations of WordPress right away to avoid the same issue I had while being on vacation down in Cape Town i.e. don’t let the  Saudi Arabia Hacker ruin your day!

Many of my friends online as well as online marketers and businesses have been waiting intensely to have Paypal open up its online banking for all to use locally.  A good friend of mine keeps telling me that he would like to expand his service offering beyond South African shores and would like to offer and use the Paypal payment gateway on his websites.

Unfortunately, Paypal has kept putting off venturing to local shores because of possible elevation of online fraud amongst other things.  Well I, like so many others, cannot wait for FNB to seal the deal with Paypal and introduce the this giant online payment gateway to the country.

Paypal coming to South Africa will encourage more and more businesses to feel comfortable to enter the online market because of their clean reputation in the online space.  Markets in South Africa could face a major uplift should Paypal grace us with their facilities online.

The best part is that the FNB and the South African Reserve Bank are in talks to bring Paypal in to the country by April this year, ahead of the 2010 Soccer World Cup!  Think of the business that could be generated with overseas folks simply using their Paypal accounts to pay for things locally online; accomodation, travel, entertainment, etc.

I will be very excited to hear the news in the coming weeks if Paypal open for business in South Africa.
