Fire in Knysna (Brenton)

no comment

Smoke hovered over Thesen Island today, whilst a fire raged on the west bank (Western Head) of Knysna’s Lagoon. We travelled across on a boat to get a closer look later in the day only to see flames jumping a few metres across the trees and an explosion went off at the top of the mountain.

Houses on the west bank of Knysna were surrounded by flames with only one helicopter making every effort to combat the fires in Knysna today.

The Value of a Smile at Christmas

no comment

Started reading How to Win Friends and Influence People again after about a decade and came across this simple expression which goes nicely with my Christmas theme…

“It costs nothing, but creates much.
It enriches those who receive, without impoverishing those who give.
It happens in a flash and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
None are so rich they can get along without it, and none so poor but are richer for its benefits.
It creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in a business, and is the countersign of friends.
It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and Nature’s best antidote for trouble.
Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is no earthly good to anybody until it is given away.
And if in the last-minute rush of Christmas buying some of our salespeople should be too tired to give you a smile, may we ask you to leave one of yours?
For nobody needs a smile so much as those who have none left to give!”

In a nutshell: SMILE!

December Time

I am quite sure everyone is gearing up for the holiday season by now.  Family are starting to arrive and gifts are getting bought.  I find the shopping malls this time of year hectic but enjoy sitting down to have a coffee to take in the festive spirit around the place.

Most people are sitting window shopping and as the month goes on, the sales in the windows become more enticing whilst walking by. “STOP!  Let’s go in here quickly”, one would say, while the other is clearly looking further ahead at a different destination.

So it’s happening all around and I can definitely say that it is a great time to see everything come alive.  See you at the mall!

If all the hussle and bussle is cetainly not your thing then online shopping is the way to go.  The best part of it is that there is still time to get things delievered before the serious mad rush of Christmas.

So check out these online stores…

Movember

Its been a tremendous month so far and we still have Thanksgiving and Black Friday to look forward too.  Just some of the weekend highlights that I’ve had going on is the weekend away up the north coast to the Prawn Shack and Tattenham Guest Farm (photo’s need to follow to believe this place), a fantastic wedding down the south coast to Ross and Carly’s wedding, and swimming a Capital K race at Midmar Dam.  The latter I might add has left me with a strained calf muscle and an incredible sense of achievement as a non-swimmer.  Ok, so Paul beat me to the finish… but at least I finished it!

So much more is still to follow.

PS.  Can anyone confirm that bit of news from the UK on whether it is true or not?
